Square Footage Calculator

Multiply length × width for rectangular rooms. A 12×15 foot room = 180 square feet. For L-shaped rooms, divide into rectangles, calculate each, and add them together. The calculator handles multiple shape types.

Divide square feet by 10.764 to get square meters. For example, 500 sq ft ÷ 10.764 = 46.45 sq m. The calculator automatically converts between unit systems.

Use the formula Area = π × radius². For a 10-foot diameter circle: radius = 5 feet, Area = 3.14159 × 25 = 78.54 square feet. The calculator handles circular areas automatically.

Break the room into basic shapes (rectangles, triangles, circles). Calculate each shape separately and add them together. For very complex shapes, use the average of length measurements.

Include all heated living space. Exclude garage, unfinished basement, and outdoor areas. Finished attics and basements count if they have permanent stairs, heating, and meet ceiling height requirements.

Commercial spaces often use 'rentable' vs 'usable' square footage. Rentable includes common areas (hallways, lobbies) proportionally. The difference (load factor) typically adds 10-20% to usable space.
